Arrive in Kaunas and stay in the Hotel Daniela, a business class hotel. The breakfast buffet is impressive!
Wednesday, March 18:
Visit the Lithuanian Information Center and get great maps and tips on sightseeing
Go to see cathedrals and old town, ride the funicular, shop the stores (almost everything in business black), AND visit five museums! We went to the Museum of the Devils, the K.M Ciurlionis National Museum of Art, and the literature, communications, and ceramic museums.
Thursday, March 19:
Snow is gone and so are we--off to Palanga
Arrive in Palenga--and hurry to the Amber Gallery and walk through the sleet to see the Baltic Sea!
Stay at the luxurious Gabija--and we thought the Hotel Daniela had a good breakfast! This hotel offers a feast--including candy bars!
Friday, March 20
Woke up to snow--about 4 inches, which leaves the resort town to all to us!
Go to the Information Center and find out there is a library in town. Also got directions to the bank.
Visit the library, the bank, the Baltic Sea, visit shops (guess what? basic black), and go to the Amber Museum
Saturday, March 21
No snow so we take off to the Courian Split (a pennynsula off the coast) to vist the town of Nida
Almost didn't have to go Nida because finding the ferry launch in Kalpedia proves difficult
Drive, drive, drive down the Split to the town of Nida. We passed up the opportunity to trudge through the mud to see Witch's Hill that promised to have folk art.
See the Amber Sand Dune (there is supposed to be more than one, but we didn't see them
